Luggage FAQ

How does the luggage rental time period work?

The luggage rental period starts the day you want to receive the luggage and ends the day you shipped it back to us. We look to the FedEx tracking number to determine these dates.

For instance, if you receive the rental bag on a Tuesday and send it back the following Tuesday, you have rented the bag for a week and should have selected that rental option. 

If you hold onto the luggage past the agreed upon period, you will be charged a pro rate amount for the additional time period. For instance, if you signed up for two weeks, but keep the luggage for a month, you will be charged for the extra two weeks.

How does return shipping work?

With every rental we include a pre-paid FedEx shipping label with the luggage. All you have to do is place the prepaid return shipping label on the original box over the original shipping label and drop it off at a FedEx location.  This prepaid return shipping label is addressed to our offices in Missouri.

What if the luggage is destroyed or lost or badly damaged when rented?

The renter is responsible for all damage to the luggage during the rental period. If the luggage is not returned after a reasonable period of time, the customer will be given notice and charged for replacement luggage. Rentluggage.com retains the sole right to determine if the luggage is lost or damaged, and the costs to be charged for repair, replacement, or cleaning.

How long does it take for the luggage to ship?

Our standard shipping is FedEx Ground which normally takes 3 to 5 business days depending on your shipping address. If you need it quicker than FedEx Ground, we do list other shipping options available and the costs associated with them during the check out process. 

Where do you delivered too?

Orders can shipped to your home, office, Airbnb, Vrbo, or even Fedex or Fedex affiliate locations.

If my trip is several weeks or months out should I go ahead and order it now?

Yes, double yes. We take orders several months out if you like. The sooner you place the order, the better we can guarantee you will get your bag on time and make sure your bag is in stock when you need it.

Are the rental rooftop carrier waterproof? 

Some of our rental rooftop bags are. In particular, our Rightline rooftop carriers are waterproof. Our Thule and Yakima rooftop carriers are water resistant which means some water could get into the bag. Regardless of the rooftop cargo bag you rent, we recommend you place items in our rentals that if a little water touched them, it would not destroy them. For instance, putting old family photos or brand new electronics such as iPads is not a good idea. We will not insure your items if they get wet in our rentals. All waterproof and resistant representations are based on the manufacturers and their testing. 

What is the difference between Water Proof and Water Resistant? 

Waterproof means the bag can be submerged completely underwater for long periods of time, and there won’t be one single drop of water that enters the interior.

Water resistant means under extreme wet conditions such as driving through a thunderstorm some water may get into a bag through such avenues as the rooftop bag zippers.

Can I ship the rental back from a different location compared to where I received the rental? 

Yes. All of our rentals come with a Fedex return pre-paid shipping label that can be used anywhere in the Continental United States. Unlike a rental car company, we don’t charge extra for this time saving solution. Check our Guide to a One-Way Rental to learn more. 

Do you ship outside the Continental United States or internationally? 

No, not at this time.

Is the luggage cleaned after use?

Every time we receive the luggage back from a customer, we disinfect the luggage using a special process.

If I have an upcoming trip, how far off should I place my order so the luggage is received prior to departure?

We recommend a 5 business day grace period prior to any scheduled trip to ensure you receive the luggage in time. If you need a rental bag quicker than our standard shipping option, we do provide faster options. The costs associated with these faster shipping options are displayed during the check out process.

Where is the return shipping label located?

The return shipping label comes with luggage inside the shipping box. If your luggage did not come with a shipping label, please contact us.

How do I repackage the luggage when shipping it back to rentluggage.com?

What is your Return Policy?

Rentluggage.com has a no refund policy, though if you have questions or concerns regarding your rental, we will be happy to do what we can to resolve your issues.

What is your Cancellation & Refund policy? 

Rentluggage.com will cancel a particular order and issue a refund minus a $10.00 processing charge if you email us prior to a shipping email notification being sent out. If a shipping email notification is sent, a cancellation is not allowed and a refund will not be given.
